About the Author

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn 'AlawÏ al-MakkÏ was Shaykh al-Islam fÏl-Balad al-Haram, the educator of Ahl al-Sunna and light of the House of the Prophet ; in our time, a major contempo rary Scholar of HadÏth, commentary of Qur’an, Law, doctrine, ta|awwuf, and Prophetic biography (sÏra). He passed away in 1425/2004. Allah have mercy on him!

About the Translator

Dr. GibrÏl Fouad Haddad was born in Beirut in 1380/1960. He embraced Islam while a graduate student in French literature at Columbia University in New York. He lives in Damascus. Since 1997 he has published many translations of classical texts by the living masters of the past and present.
